Content Strategy and UX Writing

Worked with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, Copy, Marketing and Merchandising to guide user experience of content on Walmart.com. Advocate for customer needs during multiple redesigns and two re-platforms. Scrappy genius at leveraging existing dev functionality to create messaging and improve user flow.

Recipe template redesign

Role: Guided design improvements and iterative changes to recipe content template on Walmart.com. Advocated for user-friendly design improvements including changing Instructions to Directions, creating sub-recipe grouping, adding the print recipe button, and making larger visual meta data based on user research and analytics. Where we had copyright ownership, organized directions into shorter lines of content to appeal to beginner and intermediate cooks.

Role: Review and provide feedback on design and usability of new proprietary CMS. Suggest and gather consensus on changes to functionality, naming conventions, default text, and other UX issues.

User flows and CTA

Walmart Content Recipe Weekly Ad Shopping User Flow

Role: Collaborated with XF teams to create user pathways for shopping recipe ingredients from different marketing channels. Tracked, tested, learned, iterated and improved user flows by analyzing click and sales data.

Documentation +

Role: Developed word/character count documentation for landing page design that included nine different tile styles. Used creative problem solving to improve user flow. Developers added the module functionality allowing clickable headings post-launch, but unlike the tiles, it did not contain a coded carat indicating CTA (linked included or null). Solved issue by adding carat in text to headline, thus matching tile CTA.

Taxonomy updates and navigation copy

Role: Researched, recommended, and reorganized taxonomy and categorization for CMS re-platform and website redesigns. Documented navigation rules given technical requirements and implemented analytics tagging structures for thorough click tracking.

Collaborated with IT, Sales, Marketing and Creative to develop B2B portal using existing Microsoft NT server. Designed, coded, and maintained content password-protected portal.

Role: Re-designed, re-coded and managed website using Microsoft ASP pages with server-side includes and JavaScript pop up image windows. This website lived in the server room on site, old school-style (before cloud storage was a Thing). For that reason, we wanted to keep the page load as small as possible, using image viewing on click to optimize what users wanted to view, as well as analyze what they did view.

Role: Customized WordPress website to host the full archive of music mixes created during a contest/challenge I have hosted for over 10 years (somewhat intermittently!) Organized a simple and cool navigation using Roman numerals and years, showing the the progression of the contests. (Not for nothing, after the first contest, I also developed theme names to help set the mood for each contest and challenge.)
